College of Education and Human Development

The College of Education and Human Development, established in 1959, provides quality education to a diverse student population from Southeast Texas and beyond, resulting in education and human service professionals prepared to meet the challenges of a dynamic global environment while upholding ethical values and encouraging civic and social responsibility. Faculty are committed to an environment supportive of collaborative and application-oriented learning by engaging in a balance of discipline and practice-based knowledge and skills, helping graduates achieve academic excellence and a pattern of lifelong learning.

Graduate programs, degrees and certification programs are described in separate departmental sections of this catalog. Lamar University reserves the right to modify degree requirements and teaching certificate requirements in keeping with legislative acts and rules established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Texas Education Agency.

The College is composed of four departments: Counseling, Curriculum and Instruction, Deaf Studies and Deaf Education,  and Educational Leadership. The Division of Professional Services includes admissions, advisement, assessment, TExES testing, and certification.
