The Reese Department of Construction Management at Lamar University is dedicated to educating future construction professionals through rigorous academic preparation, experiential learning, and strong industry engagement. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (BSCM) that is fully accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), affirming the program’s compliance with nationally recognized standards for construction management education.

The BSCM degree program is designed to prepare graduates for leadership and professional roles across the construction industry, including commercial, residential, heavy civil, and industrial construction sectors. Graduates pursue diverse career paths, including project engineer, project manager, superintendent, construction estimator, scheduler, cost engineer, safety manager, quality control manager, owner’s representative, construction consultant, and facilities or operations manager. The curriculum integrates technical, managerial, and analytical competencies essential to these roles, including construction methods and materials, estimating, scheduling, cost control, structural behavior, safety, contracts, and project management. Emphasis is placed on the application of industry-standard tools, emerging technologies, and data-driven decision-making.

The department maintains strong partnerships with regional and national industry stakeholders through its Construction Management Advisory Council (CMAC), which plays a vital role in curriculum relevance, program assessment, internships, scholarships, and career placement. These partnerships, together with active student organizations and structured professional development opportunities, strengthen experiential learning and support students’ transition from academic preparation to professional practice. The department advances Lamar University’s mission of excellence in teaching, research, and service while contributing meaningfully to the construction industry in Southeast Texas and beyond. Continuous assessment and systematic improvement processes ensure sustained alignment with industry expectations and workforce demands.

Accreditation

The construction management degree is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). ACCE is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as the accrediting agency for four-year baccalaureate degree programs in construction, construction science, construction management, and construction technology.
